OBTENEBRATION

The signature power of the Lasombra, Obtenebration grants the vampire power over darkness itself. The nature of the darkness invoked by Obtenebration is a matter of intense debate among Kindred. Some believe it to be merely shadows, while others feel that the power gives control over the stuff of the vampire’s soul coaxing it tangibly outward. Regardless, the effects of Obtenebration are terrifying, as waves of darkness roil out from the Cainite, enveloping those in their path like an infernal wave.

Vampires using Obtenebration can see through the darkness they control. 

​

Fire is one sure way to combat Obtenebration as it will break most of the effects if there is enough fire. Fire also can't be engulfed by the darkness created by Obtenebration and it's light can't be dimmed out by it.  supernatural projections of darkness and void are vulnerable to bright directed lights, fire, sunlight, and True Faith. A lack of shadows to pull from can make this Discipline difficult to use, though ultraviolet and infrared lights have no effect.

LEVEL 1

​

â—‰ Shadow Play

This power grants the vampire limited control over shadows and other ambient darkness. Though the vampire cannot truly “create” darkness, she can overlap and stretch existing shadows, creating patches of gloom. This power also allows Kindred to separate shadows from their casting bodies and even shape darkness into the shadows of things that are not there. Once a Kindred takes control of darkness or shadow, it gains a mystical tangibility. By varying accounts cold or hellishly hot and cloying, the darkness may be used to aggravate or even smother victims. Certain callous
Lasombra claim to have choked mortals to death with their own shadows.

Adds +2 to Stealth rolls. 

Vampire may use shadows to shape things inside of it, that others will find either unsettling or terrifying.

â—‰ Oblivion's Sight

The vampire closes their eyes. Upon opening them, the irises of their eyes are black against the white of their sclera, and they can now see clearly within pitch blackness, and can perceive ghosts through the shroud. (And generally into the shadowlands)

System:

Duration: a Scene

As the description says, the vampire may see through any dark as well as perceive ghosts except if they are trying to hide.  This has no effect on illusions or cloaking by other species. Oblivions sight allows the lasombra to see through to the shadowlands and through the darkness. It cannot be used to see through obfuscate or cloaking powers at all, it just allows a lasombra to see wraith, unless the wraith enacts "Argos Enshroud" (Itself an active hiding power that oblivion's sight can not overpower.) This power would of course detect people hiding in the dark, or wraith that are not enshrouded.

LEVEL 2

◉◉ Arms Of Arhima

The vampire summons abyssal appendages from unlit spots in the area. Local shadows distort as murky tentacles snake out from them and converge on one or more hapless victims. Whether by gliding up the body of the victim or engaging in a mystic grapple with the victim’s own shadow, the arms are able to hold them in place or smother them.

Costs 1 Blood Point

Vampire summons several shadow appendages which which they may use to attack from distance (40 meters maximum). Vampire uses their normal combat stats to perform this and damage is applied as usual (however this damage is always lethal type). Vampire also may not do anything else except defending themself when using this power. The shadow appendages have 5 HP and may also be used to perform simple "free" actions.

LEVEL 3

◉◉◉ Touch Of Oblivion   (Identical to Necromancy â—‰â—‰â—‰ Wither 

The vampire using Touch of Oblivion channels the power through their vitae. When they make physical contact with a victim, the annihilating element runs through the vampire and into their prey like an electric current, except the effect is to physical wither the target area.
Effective on any part of the body, the touch shrinks and shortens muscles, snaps tendons, and makes bones brittle, effectively aging the affected part catastrophically. Its main use is in the withering of a limb, the choking of a throat, or the blinding a pair of eyes.

Costs 1 Blood Point

Roll: Strength + Brawl vs Dexterity + Athletics

Upon grapple the victim suffers 3 aggravated damage  and cripples whatever limb they touch.

​◉◉◉ Shadow Perspective  

The vampire can project their senses into any shadow within line of sight, seeing and hearing as if they were hiding within any part of it.

Costs 1 Blood Point

Roll: Obtenebration + Occult, Difficulty 12

While this power is active the vampire perceives both their surroundings as well as what can be gleaned from the Shadow Perspective, as if looking through a screen or hole. While their sense are in the shadow, this must be stated. Others may roll Perception + Wits vs vampires Wits + Stealth(+2 from Shadow play is applied). If vampire fails the roll then others realize that something is wrong with the shadow from which the vampire listens from.

LEVEL 4

​

◉◉◉◉ Stygian Shroud

Darkness spews out of a nearby shadow as the vampire blankets the area around them in gloom equivalent to a moonless night, while sounds are muffled and indistinct. Anyone viewing the effect from without, see it as a shadow expanding over every surface, including the bodies of the victim, in the area. Those apart from the invoker caught in the effects find themselves struggling to see and hear their surroundings, and mortals are drained of their very life by the suffocating power.

Roll: Occult + Obtenebration, Difficulty 14

Duration: a Scene

The darkness covers 20 meters and is centered either on the user, moving with them. Alternatively the user may cast it in their near eye sight, where it remains stationary. Anyone caught in the Stygian Shroud receives -3 penalty to  physical and perception rolls, unless they possess the ability to see through supernatural darkness. Anyone who can breathe caught in the Stygian Shroud suffer 1 damage for every turn they remain within it, due to the power’s suffocating effects.​

LEVEL 5

​

◉◉◉◉◉ Tenebrous Form

The vampire gains the ability to change their very substance into that of a shadow, becoming a two-dimensional patch of darkness able to slither over any surface and through miniscule gaps and cracks. While in this form the vampire is only harmed by fire and sunlight.

Costs 2 Blood Point

Duration: a Scene

Once the transformation is complete the vampire can move at walking pace across the ground or along walls, hampered only by hermetically sealed barriers. Vampires using Tenebrous Avatar can envelop victims, causing the victim to have -3 penalty to all rolls and suffocating mortals as with Stygian Shroud, above. If surrounding a mortal, the vampire can feed from them without penetrating the skin with fangs. Practitioners of this power take no damage from physical sources but can be harmed by fire and sunlight as normal.

◉◉◉◉◉ Shadow Step

Stepping into a nearby shadow, the user disappears only to reappear from the same or another shadow further away. Whether they enter the Labyrinth or merely pass along its surface is a source of conjecture among many Lasombra and Hecata, but the spiritual damage with which they can emerge imply they are touching something foul as they use this power.

Costs 1 Blood Point

Duration: 1 Turn

The vampire must enter a shadow large enough to cover them, and emerge from another one turn later. The target shadow must be within 30 meters, though it can be perceived by mystical means, such as Shadow Perspective, if desired. It is possible to bring another through the passage, but unless that person is willing they must be held by a successful grapple.

Generation 7 characters who have achieved ranks 1-thru 5  in this discipline may purchase ONE of the following disciplines below. The character may buy all level 6 ranks providing it is an IN CLAN discipline.

◉◉◉◉◉ ◉ The Darkness Within

This power allows the Cainite to call forth the darkness contained in her black soul. This enormous, turbulent shadow vomits from the vampire’s mouth, though some vampires are said to cut themselves and let the blackness seep from their veins. The shadow-cloud engulfs a chosen target, burning it with a soul-scarring chill and siphoning its blood away in torrents.

Costs 2 Blood Points

Roll: Occult + Obtenebration vs Stamina

The Cainite creates the shadow that slithers it's way through to someone and covers them, the amount successes represent how much blood it have absorbed from a victoim. On a next turn it returns to the caster of this power and gives this blood to the caster.

◉◉◉◉◉ ◉ Aegis Of Shadow

When the vampire calls on this power, strands of darkness weave around him and solidify into a dark suit of armor. The vampire is completely encased in shadow, but able to see out of it as if it wasn’t there.

Roll: Occult + Obtenebration, Difficulty 14

Duration: a Scene

+3 to defense rolls vs everything but fire and sunlight. However on botch not only it does not work but the user suffers 3 aggravated damage.

◉◉◉◉◉ ◉◉ Shadow Lair

This power is an advancement on Shadowstep, effectively allowing the vampire to pause mid-step. She enters a dark realm outside existence, where she is unaware of what might be occurring in the real world. Just as nothing can see the vampire here, she also can’t see anything outside the void.

System:

Costs 2 Blood Point

Duration: a Scene

Vampire may hide inside the shadow after a shadow step for a scene.

◉◉◉◉◉ ◉◉ Shadow Twin

The vampire’s control over darkness has progressed to such a degree that he may bestow upon it a limited degree of sentience. By animating his own shadow or that of another, the Cainite can actually “free” the shadow cast by light. While this power is active, the subject casts no shadow, as it has left to pursue the vampire’s commands. This power can unnerve mortals and even a few inexperienced vampires. The Kindred wielding Obtenebration commands the individual’s shadow; some vampires report having seen mortals literally scared to death, as their shadows leapt away to taunt or menace them.

Roll: Willpower, Difficulty 16

The shadow twin has same Strength, Stamina, and Dexterity rating as a vampire that casts it.
