Nocturne V.2
A World of Darkness Sim
HARROWING

Harrowing's are psycho dramas played out by spectres under the instruction of the wraiths own shadow. These passion plays tap into the wraiths very worst fears and anxieties. They take place in the labyrinth beneath the underworld. In Nocturne we have 2 options with regards to Harrowing's.

STORYTELLER LED HARROWING
A Harrowing "Can" be role-played and resolved if you really ,really want and if there is a storyteller or player willing to roleplay the scene out with you. The types are played out depending on what the target of the harrowing is. Specters instructed by your shadow present a challenge to your wraith in the labyrinth. Remember your shadow knows you intimately, so knows how to mind fu.... mess you up, you need to provide your characters fears and passions and fetters to whoever is running the scene for you. DO NOTE: Storytellers may inflict a harrowing upon your character if they believe they have good reason. Harrowing's are part of the wraith experience. A player should experience at least ONE of each type in their unlife.

THE MECHANICAL METHOD
Both role-play and mechanical involve the same rolls ultimately, however in the roleplay method you are allowed to use your wraith arcanoi and abilities during the scenarios. The mechanical method just skips to the end of the scene and makes the relevant rolls. There are 3 parts to this.
-
TRIGGER: This is what causes you to enter a harrowing.
-
HARROWING ANGST: When in the harrowing you will gain Angst (this is NOT in addition to any angst you already have) All harrowing types cause Angst, so there is only 1 roll made for this. A flat roll with a basic modifier of +1
-
RESOLUTION: The angst caused by the harrowing is tested against the strength of your passion, fetter, stamina. Depending on Harrowing Type.

-
Q: How long does a Harrowing take?
-
A: As long as it needs to. Time flows differently inside the Labyrinth, more so inside a Harrowing. One can take seconds, minutes — or in extreme cases, years.
-
Q: What does the Shadow do during a Harrowing?
-
A: Advises the Spectres who are mounting the production.
-
Q: What happens to my character’s gear when she falls into a Harrowing?
-
A: If she’s carrying or wearing it, it goes with her. If not, it stays behind.
-
Q: What happens to my Angst after a harrowing?
-
A: it is reset to 0, unless your harrowing triggered another harrowing (See botch), in which case the Angst remains at its current level until you have no more harrowing's due.
