 ESSENCE: GLAMOUR

Glamour is required for a changeling to be able to access the dreaming and their changeling abilities.

STARTING GLAMOUR:

  • Sleeping in a freehold, in the light of a balefire, allows a changeling to refresh their entire glamour pool. The changeling must dream; if his sleep is disturbed or troubled they can't. A Changeling who sleeps in a freehold starts the night with one point of spendable glamour equal to their glamour rank. Changelings who do not sleep in freeholds, start the night with the same amount of spendable glamour they had left the previous night. Changelings in captivity will not be able to regain glamour in this way.

GLAMOUR USE:

  • A Changelings abilities depend on them having at least -ONE- point of glamour in their spendable Glamour Pool, if they do not, then they are mortal and forget their Fae nature until they are given an infusion of Glamour.

  • You must spend a point of Glamour each time your character casts a Wyrd cantrip.

  • The character can spend Glamour to enchant a mortal,
either temporarily or permanently. (See Enchantment rules for how to do this).

  • Removing Banality : A changeling may spend 1 point of Glamour to cancel 1 point of gained banality (Note: this only works for temporary banality)

  • Reroll: For the cost of 1 point of spendable glamour a changeling may reroll a failed or botched roll they have made :However a reroll can never be rerolled by any means, and things that are prohibited from rerolls (Such as Unleashing) cannot be rerolled. Also note this reroll is only possible with failures or botches, successful rolls are good enough, the dreaming is satisfied with the roll as it is.

GAINING GLAMOUR:

  • Dross: This does not restore Glamour, per se, but can be spent in place of Glamour  (See Dross Page)

  • Sleep: As described above under starting glamour.

  • Epiphany: See the five paths of Epiphany page. (Glamour gained from Epiphany can be used immediately to cancel a number of temporary banality points)

GLAMOUR LIMITS:

Characters are limited to the amount of spendable glamour they may have at one time, also the amount of dross they may have at one time.

The limit on spendable glamour is 2 x Glamour Rank.

BALANCE : BANALITY

STARTING BANALITY:

All Changelings begin each night with 3 permanent Banality and zero temporary Banality.

GAINING BANALITY:

Unless otherwise noted, all systems for gaining banality will add 1 temporary banality to the changeling.

Do note: While murder is pretty banal, it does not prevent a changeling from committing them. After all a changeling can quite happily murder 10 people a night before gaining 1 permanent Banality. (10 temporary Banality = 1 permanent banality)

Long-term exposure :
Long-term exposure to a concentrated source of extreme Banality or Balance (8+) requires a test.

Roll: Glamour Rank

Difficulty 5+ Permanent Banality.

Failure: Gain 1 temporary Banality.

NOTE: Long term exposure requires more than 1 scene. The test is rolled -after- the last scene involving the banality and balance 8+ source.

Invoking the Autumn:

Invoking the Autumn to resist cantrips or chimerical effects. (see Anti -magic)

Enchantment:

Failing to overcome a target’s Banality while enchanting them

Treasures:

Wilfully destroying a Treasure or any other irreplaceable faerie artifact.

Murder Chimerical
Killing a changeling’s chimerical self

Murder Changeling
Ending a changeling’s mortal life.

Murder Dreamer.
Killing one of the enchanted, a mortal Dreamer, or Kinain.

Cold Iron
Wielding cold iron.

Botching a Cantrip.

Botching a cantrip gains 1 point of banality.

Botching a cantrip against a banality or balance 8 target gains 2 points of  temp banality.

Entering the Underworld

Death is the ultimate banality, a changeling entering the underworld of the wraith suffers 1 banality per turn.

Failing a cantrip against banality or balance 8 targets.

1 Point of temp banality

SHEDDING BANALITY

A changeling has two options to remove temporary banality.

Spend Glamour:

The changeling may spend 1 point of glamour to cancel one point of temporary banality.

Roll On The Nightmare Table

A changeling may take a nightmare effect instead of a banality gain (See Casting) A changeling can do this -anytime- they gain banality, not just for for banality gained via failed spell rolls.

NOTE: There are many reasons we do not have nightmare points. Another trackable is something we don't want to deal with, also nightmare is meant to be taken to avoid banality gain, it is always expected that at some point the nightmare effect would come into play, when we used nightmare points in previous iterations, this -never- happened, essentially we had a banality rank of 20+ for all intents and purposes.

PERMANENT BANALITY:

When ever a character's temporary banality reaches 10+ they gain 1 point of Permanent banality (this should be very  hard to do)

Permanent banality does -not- reset.

Permanent banality requires a storyteller led quest to get rid of.

If a character reaches permanent  banality 10 + They become undone.

AREA BANALITY AND THE BANALITY OF OTHERS

This is covered under casting. Characters "Balance" is their banality, and the area banality chart on the casting page tells you of the local area banality.
