 ANTI MAGIK

Changelings are able to defend against hostile magics in two ways.

INVOKING THE AUTUMN

Invoking the autumn ONLY works against Cantrips. It does not work against Mage effects or other spell casters that exist in the world of darkness. Other spell casters care not one jot for banality and their effects generally are designed for use on banal characters anyway. Changeling Cantrips however have difficulty against targets with banality.

The Mists can serve as a literal shield as well as a metaphorical one.

By invoking the Autumn as one invokes the Wyrd , the Kithain can deny the effect of chimerical reality upon themselves. While this renders them immune to any chimerical effects, including chimerical cantrips, it invites Banality in.

SYSTEM:

QUICK ACTION

GAIN: 1 Banality for a single turn / 2 Banality for a full scene.

  • Any effect with a chimerical source that would normally affect her does not do so for one turn or a full scene depending on the banality gain.

  • Wyrd effects function normally, as these affect the Autumn world.

  • The changeling perceives the chimerical world while invoking the Autumn, but she cannot interact with it — for the duration of her invocation, it is immaterial to her. This means she cannot use any fae abilities or cantrips.

CANTRIP CONTROL  (FAE REALM â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰ DWEOMER OF GLAMOUR REQUIRED

Changelings with FAE REALM â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰ DWEOMER OF GLAMOUR can hijack another changelings cantrip and either rework it, or change the effect of it.

However this business is frightfully complicated and the standard -casting- of a cantrip must target the other cantrip and all glamour costs must be paid.

  • The changeling MUST have greater or equal dots of the ART used in the other cantrip to be able to alter it.

  • The alteration to the opposing cantrip is channelled through another ART, For example a changeling using fae 5 and Sovereign on an enemy cantrip can order it to stop. Though the exact thing done to the cantrip depends on what the Altering Art is capable of normally. For Example an altered cantrip imbued with one of the -spring- powers may become a source of healing....

  • Generally this is a complicated way of counter weaving, but there can be interesting combinations or even useful team work if two changelings collaborate.

  • NOTE: Cantrip control can ONLY be used on CHANGELING ARTS, it cannot affect other magiks in world of darkness.

COUNTER WEAVING (FAE REALM â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰ DWEOMER OF GLAMOUR REQUIRED

Changelings who have mastered the Fae Realm are able to serve as potent Anti-casters. Not only against their fellow changelings, but against any "Supernatural" power directed at them or others.

Counter weaving is -not- reweaving, it is not able to -undo- magical buffs that the magic user has placed upon themselves, vampire disciplines such as potence, celerity, fortitude, obfuscate can not be undone. However magical effects that target -others- or -areas- can be undone. However it does require a degree of mastery over the specifics of the magic used. Using the list below, work out what "Art" knowledge is required.

  • SPRING: Growth, Life, Protection

  • SUMMER Energy, Passion, Light

  • AUTUMN Fear, Shadows, Decay

  • WINTER Cold, Ice and The Death Of Emotion

  • CHRONOS Tempo, History and Time Control

  • SOVEREIGN Leadership, Command, and Obedience

  • CHICANERY Perception, Memory, and Trickery

  • CONTRACT Oaths, Deals, and Fae Bargains.

  • LEGERDEMAIN Illusion, Slight of Hand, and Telekinesis.

  • METAMORPHOSIS Shape shifting and Transformation.

  • ONEIROMANCY Dreams and Slumber

  • PRIMAL Mastery Of The Elements and The Natural World.

  • PYRETICS Fire, Heat and Purification

  • SKYCRAFT Weather Manipulation and Control.

  • SOOTHSAY Clairvoyance, Prophecy and Fate.

  • WAYFARE Movement, Freedom, and Journeys.

EXAMPLE:

  • Obtenebration effects for example can be contested with sufficient knowledge of Autumn, which deals with shadows.

  • Life Sphere effects can be contested with sufficient knowledge of Spring, which deals with life.

  • Correspondence sphere effects against others can be contested with sufficient knowledge of wayfare.

  • Sovereign can be used to contest Dominate.

  • Summer can be used to contest Presence.

SYSTEM:

  • Compare Own ART ranking to sphere mastery, discipline mastery, lore mastery, Art mastery , Arcanos Mastery , Gift Rank, Numina Rank.

  • NOTE: Changelings contest ARTS used against one another with the same ART and not an Art that may -coincide- or -intersect-

  • If your mastery of an ART is less than the mastery of the sphere, discipline etc... then nothing can be done.

  • If your mastery of an ART is equal or greater than the mastery of the sphere ,discipline etc then a contest can be made.

CONTEST

SPEND: 1 Glamour.

ROLL:  FAE REALM â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰â—‰ + RELEVENT ART RANKING + OCCULT

VS:     MASTERY OF DISCIPLINE/SPHERE/ETC + ESSENCE RANK

SUCCESS:

Each success scored reduces the successes of the contested effect by 1 point.

If all successes are removed, then the effect is cancelled.

NOTE: This can be an extended roll if there are simply too many successes to remove. However if the changeling botches, the effect regains any previously lost successes + 2 and cannot be removed.  If the opponent botches the effect is completely removed.

UNLEASHING

Every Kithain possesses another, more dangerous method to do magic. Unleashing. This ability is rarely used and generally only in times of absolute desperation.

Learning an Art unlocks a new door into the Dreaming, and a changeling desperate enough can kick that door open. Because the Unleashed Glamour reaches through the Dreaming by way of the changeling’s kith, an Unleashed Art always reflects the changeling’s nature. A redcap Unleashing Wayfare yanks the target violently through the air or sends him hurtling through a nightmare world of blood and pain before emerging blocks away. An eshu Unleashing Contract, on the other hand, surrounds the target with the noises and smells of a busy marketplace as she is forced to accept a future favor from the changeling in return for handing over an item the character seeks.

SYSTEM:

SPEND:  2 GLAMOUR PER RANK OF DESIRED ART

ROLL: GLAMOUR RANK + DESIRED ART RANK (The changeling can unleash ranks of the art he does not possess, so long as he has 1 dot in the art)

REALMS: The changeling does not have to possess a realm in order to unleash at a particular target, he declares the target realm when he unleashes. He may define the area covered by the scene realm , but not -time or seat-  (Example, All of those werewolves over there! Actor /scene)

DIFFICULTY: 14+  (Targets roll their defence vs a difficulty of 14+)

SUCCESSES REQUIRED: 1 success per rank of the desired art is required. Example: Unleashing warfare 5 requires five successes. No rerolls are permitted for an unleashing.

SUCCESSES:

  • Equal or greater than desired art rank: The art is unleashed with a number of successes equal to the art rank. The wyrd is invoked for 1 x Glamor rank turns. her fae mien becomes visible and the art is unleashed in a manner most suited to her kith. It is wyrded if it -needs- to be.

  • Less successes than desired art rank: The character loses control. The character’s intent is fulfilled, but in a twisted or unintended way that adds complications or puts everyone nearby at risk. (Everyone within 3 x glamour rank meters of the target is attacked by the art with the number of successes rolled)  The character automatically invokes the Wyrd for the remainder of the scene.

FAILURE:

The character is unable to Unleash and gains 1 Banality, and the character cannot use the Unleashed Art for the remainder of the scene.

BOTCH:

The Dreaming floods through the character completely unchecked until Banality violently responds to the breach of the Mists. The character gains 1 temporary banality  and the Unleashed Art causes her to suffer +10 difficulty to all actions this current turn. At the beginning of the next turn, Banality responds and cuts the character off from the Dreaming, and she cannot spend glamour or use Arts for the remainder of the scene.

NOTE: Unleashing can only unleash the effects of the cantrip at the cantrips level. The advantage of unleashing's is that one does not need the full rank of the Art to use it, nor does it need the appropriate realms. While this sounds like -free- magic use, it is not. It costs a lot of glamour to make up for the lack of Art or Realm requirements. (A level 5 unleashing will cost 10 spendable glamour!)  It also requires an exceptional number of successes at the higher levels.
