THE MISTS

Once, long ago, the fae created barriers that would protect themselves and the wonders of the chimerical world from the prying eyes of humanity. Over time, the Mists merged with the rising Banality and transformed from a protection against mortal intrusion into a barrier between Kithain and the Dreaming. While this unseen cloud of disenchantment keeps mortals from recognizing fae magic and faerie miens when they see them, it also helps to cloud the mind of changelings while in their mortal form. Because of the Mists, changelings cannot draw upon the full knowledge of their fae selves, or their past-life memories of Arcadia and generations of immortal life. So much of the fae self is lost to hazy recollection or fragmented dreams thanks to the Mists’ influence.

Generally the mists serves to protect the dreaming from banality and from those who would do the dreaming harm.

  • The mists remove  and hide the witnessed -chimerical- effects. They do not make a character forget another character attacked them even if that character had chimerical wings or horns or goat legs, they just forget those chimerical elements. In short A changeling who antagonises another will -still- be remembered to be antagonistic, even if their fairy wing or elf ears are not.

  • Unlike the Fog and Delerium, supernatural creatures are not immune to the mists.

  • Chimerical effects are always invisible to those who are not fae and not enchanted. (Unless Wyrded

  • The Fallen do not need to roll on the chart. They can't perceive chimerical reality, but if it's Wyrded they are immune to the mind altering effect of the mists.

  • Malkavanian Vampires  do not need to roll on the chart. They can't perceive chimerical reality, but if it's Wyrded they are spared the mind altering effect of the mists , (no need to roll ) because the mists does not care about these specific (Malkavanian)  lunatics remembering, much in the same way they do not mind children remembering.

ROLLING THE MISTS : ( COMPOSURE + RESOLVE ) MINUS BALANCE : DIFFICULTY 12 +

  • Changelings must roll on the mists if they are "killed" by chimerical damage or loses ALL of their spendable glamour.

  • Enchanted must roll on the mists and be treated as a witness should they lose their enchantment. Do note, the memory altered is the entire duration of enchanted life. (Only the supernatural aspect, one is still going to remember being raped or attacked for instance and the human face of the aggressor)

  • Other characters must roll for the mists if a changeling invokes the Wyrd or uses Wyrd effects.

  • These rolls happen at the end of the scene.

  • Because the roll is composure + resolve minus balance, characters with high balance are unlikely to score -many- successes. This basically means highly banal chars will have less recall.

  • Bare in mind, a character only has to be successful on the mists chart ONCE to know that the fae exist remember and who is fae, while each individual encounter may have a different outcome, it does not erase "previous" experience (Unless you ARE a changeling, in which case your memories are locked unless given a full infusion of glamour)
