CHIMERICAL VS WYRD

EACH Art states whether the effect is chimerical, Wyrd, or can be both.

  • Chimerical effects, typically do not manifest in the Autumn world, and are thus invisible (and non damaging) to non enchanted witnesses.

  • While Wyrd cantrips exist in equal measure in both worlds.

If an Art can be invoked as either type, the player chooses and spends the appropriate amount of temporary glamour.

  • WYRD: must be used to physically effect un-enchanted or non Kithain targets or non chimera.

  • If an effect does not have the Wyrd option written on its profile and you want to effect a character that is NOT a changeling, chimera or an enchanted, then the Wyrd must be invoked! (See Invoking the Wyrd below)

CHIMERICAL DAMAGE:

Is the equivalent of bashing damage on enchanted creatures. It can only knock them out, not kill. A changeling reduced to zero health from Chimerical Damage needs to roll on the mists table or forget their fae selves.

CHIMERICAL EFFECTS vs UNENCHANTED

  • Chimerical effects cannot -physically- effect unenchanted (By which we mean, those who are not changeling, chimera, kinain or enchanted)

  • Chimerical effects that work on mind or emotions work fine and do not need to be wyrded.

  • Chimerical illusions are only visible to those who can see chimera. There are very few exceptions to this, if its not mentioned by the art assume the effect needs to be wyrded to be -seen- by non enchanted.

CHIMERICAL REALITY

Changelings can take "Chimerical" damage, this damage usually heals within the day and is non fatal. Only Chimerical Cantrip's and weapons can inflict Chimerical damage, this does nothing to those not of fae blood. Chimerical reality cannot be witnessed by those without Fae sight (Changelings) or the enchanted. Everyone else simply sees humans playing silly games with one another or inflicting violence in mundane ways. (See Chimerical Reality Page for a deeper understanding of this and also the dreaming page for rules while in the dreaming)

INVOKING THE WYRD

Though the Autumn world rejects the Dreaming and its children, Kithain are not without recourse. In moments of great need, a changeling can call forth all of her magic, bringing her fae nature to the fore. If successful, the Dreaming extends some of its powers and protection to its descendant, allowing her to manifest fully in the Autumn world. Invoking the Wyrd makes a changeling’s faerie mien and any personal chimera fully solid and physical, capable of interaction with the Autumn world.

INVOKING THE WYRD

SYSTEM:

SPEND 1 GLAMOUR

ROLL:   GLAMOUR RANK

DIFFICULTY: 5 + AREA BANALITY (Or 5+ OWN BANALITY) Choose highest value.

SUCCESS:

On a success, the character invokes the Wyrd for the duration of a scene. (Other changelings are -not- wyrded unless they roll for themselves)

FAILURE: A failure on this roll gains one point of temporary banality.

BOTCH:  A botch incurs Temporary Banality points equal to the Area banality.

INVOKING THE WYRD ALTERNATIVE

A character can also invoke the Wyrd by Unleashing an Art.

EFFECTS OF INVOKING THE WYRD

REROLLS

  • If a player is dissatisfied with the outcome of a roll, (Except invoking wyrd roll)  she can spend a point of Glamour and reroll the dice. She can only do so once for a given action, but she can take whichever result she wishes. (She can't reroll a reroll though).

CANTRIP COST

  • Though all cantrips become Wyrd, they no longer cost a point of Glamour to cast.

 WITNESSES

  • All of the character’s voile and chimera and their fae mien become solid and visible to non-enchanted eyes. This means that a changeling’s chimerical armor can protect her from bullets, and her chimerical sword can cut a mundane opponent.

  • Once changelings leave the Wyrd-state, the Mists begin to clear (non changelings) witnesses’ minds as normal (Unless they can beat the mists roll)

DAMAGE:

  • Damage that was formerly Chimerical is treated as follows when forced to being wyrd.

  • BASHING: Fists, Clubs, Crushes, Blunt. Generally any -blunt- item will cause bashing damage when wyrded.

  • LETHAL: Sharp objects, arrows, swords, pikes, spears, axes, claws will cause lethal damage when wyrded.

  • AGGRAVATED: Is not available to chimerical only cantrips or weapons. If the item or cantrip is capable of aggravated damage then this will be found under the weapon or cantrip or chimerical rede entry.

  • CANTRIPS: Cantrips have damage types associated with them inbuilt, if they are chimerical only and can cause damage, then the damage is bashing. (If they don't normally do damage, they still don't)  Cantrips with a wyrd option will have a damage type already.
